GUSD Welcomes Parent Involvement
Teaching and Learning
96% of GUSD’s teachers (nearly 1200) are credentialed and appropriately assigned. The goal is to reach 100% in 2023-24. An additional 1200 classified employees provide critical support as yard duty aides, custodians, food service workers, administrative assistants, clerks, and more.
Public school curriculum frameworks are established by the California State Board of Education. GUSD has curriculum experts who select materials that align with each subject and grade level’s learning goals.
GUSD invites parents and students to be involved in this process. We support the education experts’ skill and knowledge in content selection.
Want to see what your child is studying? Check out their portals on Clever and/or Google Classroom. You are welcome to read a math book or history or science textbook.
Parent Involvement
From LCAP and School Site Council to PTAs and foundations, parents are heavily involved in our GUSD schools.
Volunteering at school sites is welcomed, provided that we volunteers follow the conduct and safety requirements established by GUSD. School gardens, school libraries, class pizza parties, festivals, dances, and annual celebrations are often run by supportive parents.
Many GUSD parents are also GUSD employees. Our school district is in fact the largest employer in Glendale.
School Choice
GUSD serves 25,000 students at 29 school sites, plus 2 online academies and with 10 preschools housed within some of our 20 elementary schools.
There are 6 specialized magnet schools with programs in STEAM, language immersion, and visual/performing arts.
GUSD’s popular dual immersion program features 7 languages: Armenian, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.
Health and Wellness
GUSD prioritizes students’ health and well-being.
School Libraries
We love our school librarians. All students get approximately 30 minutes of library time each week in the library.
Extracurriculars
Our students have the opportunity to explore so many interests in GUSD.
